You sure about that.
Mine still seems to know where I am (nearest 100ft) if I remove SDCard.
With no card in it, it lost the satellite fix and took ages searching for a lock - meanwhile it was ... |

All the Card holds is
1) Region Detail Maps.
2) Garmin Shipped POIs
3) Your POIs
4) Voice files.
Yep, I figured that out (unlike the Quote button!  )
