I'm not averse to paying, I am averse to ads though. If they offer a "premium" version that costs money but doesn't involve ads, I'll sign up straight away.

Fair enough, obviously it should be optional, I suppose the question is whether it's on or off by default.
If people don't want roaming data usage they'll have it switched off in the iPhone setting ... |

I should have mentioned, I'm pretty sure I saw most issues when not running on external power. I may also have been playing music in the iPod app in the background.
