If the devices are already downloading all the traffic data, then bandwidth/data costs are not an issue. Likewise the quantity is also not an issue as traffic downloads are pretty quick.

after having a play around, it suddenly offered me a newer map, not wanting to waste the opportunity i said yes, and so I now have v870

received mine today, map version 840 no latest map guarantee for me Crying or Very sad

they are offering latest map and 18 months updates for just under £40 cant decide if it is worthwhile.

so glad i read this thread, I was so close to buying a 1005, but i guess i will keep my trusty tomtom one v2(data costs are minimal).
