Well, I've only gone and done it !!!
I took the whole plunge and got a 730T from Halfords for £279.99.
Inital thoughts are pretty much what previous posters have said, much more customisable.

I have the same problem with the 730T. You turn the device on, plan your root, you watch the little traffic icon start to spin and bang, black screen and everything re-boots. Does it everytime.

Try this:
Take a backup of your SD card
Format your SD card
etc.
Not a good idea... the Go 720 doesn't have an SD card from new. The software and maps are all on internal memory.

Had the same problem a few days ago.
To fix I just reset my password via the tom tom site, then changed the password on my tom tom to match and everything was fine after.

Try this:
Take a backup of your SD card
Format your SD card
Hold the reset key down on the Bottom of the TomTom for 15 seconds.
Leave your device then for around 2 to 3 minutes.
