I should also have said you refer to ........ " always show true heading " ..... are you saying this is True North likewise? .... if so, is it switchable over to magnetic north?

I would agree for street heading the deviation is meaningless, likewise the bearing you take again does not have a significant meaning over relatively short distances ...
