No there's no difference, it's a standard USB cable.
I'm not sure which you mean when you say "when we turned the unit on as normal it worked perfectly"

Switched tomtom off and disconnected from usbI think this may be where your problem lays at the moment.
Not using Safely Remove Hardware can cause corruption of the SD Card.

Hi, have you tried a 30 second re-set? Press re-set button in, and hold it in for 30 seconds, also, have you got a Windows Explorer backup, not a TomTom backup?
