Are you sure it's not a loose plug in the cigarette lighter socket? This would power on and off, giving the symptoms you describe.

positive. i forgot to add that we tried charging both our mobiles ...

2) Make sure your dock clicks twice as its atwo stage bracket. Mine was doing the same on one click and is fine after 2.
