Steve - I'm afraid you are wrong. Background refresh has nothing to do with updating the app.

Background refresh allows apps in the background to run as if they are in the foreground.

In the background the alerts stopped but then when I got home there were notifications for the two locations I passed. But no audio alert.

Drove all the way to work with CamerAlert in the background.
Not a peep!!

Will try in the foreground later.
