I deleted all Tom Tom files including maps on CF and SD cards, Had France, Spain, Portugal, as well as the UK maps, reloaded all and it worked first time.

Oops! Just found out my mistake. I'd forgotten to tick the box to the left of the list of GPS receivers once I'd chosen the new one.
