Thanks sussamb, to my great relief the reinstall worked.
However, as MichaelCahill mentions above, in my case the gmapdem disc image file was also missing and I had to copy it from my backup. ... |

Just updated my 3598.
Took about half an hour.
Booting takes more than 30s
Front screen finally appears.
Freezes when "Where To" and "Maps" is pressed.
Does not go to the next screen - just hangs ... |
