Hi,
Sorry if this has been covered before but I have a Garmin 61 LMT-D and told it has Western Europe maps installed, is this right? and when I go to Cyprus next week, is it a case of just turning it on and the unit will find the right maps ??
Sorry if this sounds a bit of a daft question, but I have never used one abroad before.
Many thanks

No, it can only use the maps loaded but when you turn it on it will show your location, although having travelled hundreds of miles since it was last able to get a satellite fix it may take a while to obtain one. You can help by switching it on with a clear view of the sky and not moving it until it gets a fix.
Note Cyprus isn't part of the Western Europe map. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

So lyngarth, you should be OK. Just zoom out on your map until you can see the Med, then zoom in to Cyprus just to double check.
As suss said, it will take quite a few mins to find an lock the sats with a move of that distance. |

Yes you get Cyprus with the full EU map but not Western Europe _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I know that. The OP said he had a 61 LMT-D which I am, possibly wrongly, interpreting as a Drive Smart 61 LMT-D. Mine has full Europe on it. I was pointing out that the OP might just have been miss informed about the WE maps and actually have Full Europe maps on it, and the absolute confirmatory method of finding if he has Cyprus maps is to zoom in on Cyprus and see if the roads are there.
However if he actually has a Drive 61 LMT-D, then I don't know, but as I said, use the zoom facility. |

Trouble is the 61 comes with either full EU or Western Europe or UK & Ireland so my guess is when he says he has Western Europe he has Western Europe. Strangely Eastern Europe doesn't have Cyprus either. You only get it with the full EU map. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Why do Garmin go down the same route as TT and give completely different devices very similar names? Stupid. |

All of them as far as I can tell ... but only the OP can confirm exactly which map, however if it is Western Europe he's out of luck, although there are 3rd party maps he could use. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies, also sorry for any confusion.
When I got the Garmin from Halfords, the chap told me I could drive anywhere in Western Europe with it, so thats why I thought it had that version of the maps.
I have just got the box out again and it reads, Garmin Drive Smart 61 Europe LMT-D, so is this OK for Cyprus ? or is there another way I can find out which maps it has on it, I know how to look on a tomtom but not Garmin.
Many thanks

Go to Settings, Map & Vehicles, myMaps. ... what does it say?
If CN Europe NTU 2018.20 Western Europe your maps are up to date and as I originally said that does not include Cyprus. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

For the third time, zoom out using the +- icons until you can see the Med. Move the map by dragging it until Cyprus is near the centre. Use the +- icons to zoom back in and kook for the roads (they are all there on my DS61). That way you will be absolutely 100% certain that you have the Cyprus map.
If there are no roads, you don't. If you bought it from Halfords paying either £200 or £250 (depending on when you bought it), then it has all Europe on it.
Google found this as the second hit https://www.garmin.com/uk/european-map-coverage sussamb wrote: | Go to Settings, Map & Vehicles, myMaps. ... what does it say?

I would be most surprised if the OP's Garmin has any useable Cyprus data on it. If however the unit can connect to Mapsource or Basecamp then there is good coverage, both North and South, to be had from Open Street Maps (OSM)

Well IF he has the full EU map the coverage is very good. If not there are numerous sources, including the one you mention. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Jeez, this is hard work convincing you guys. The OP says he has a DS 61 from Halfords. The DS 61 has full Europe maps. SEE HERE
I have just quickly compared Nicosia and Limasol on my DS 61 with Google maps, and I can find no difference. So if you call Google maps unusable, then so be it. But I would be happy driving around Cyprus with my DS 61. |

Well I agree. However the OP said he had Western Europe so there is some confusion. Only he can confirm it by telling us what shows in Settings, Map & Vehicles, myMaps _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |
