I'd hold off buying the CF GPS and adapter and see how you get on with just the BT, and no, TT3 will not work with your laptop. Autoroute does, but you get neither re-routing nor voice directions. Read the reviews here to see if they are more suitable. _________________ Tim |

How easy is it to change between using the BT and the CF GPS and adapter
i.e. say you are using the GPS in the car and then travel by foot and want to use the CF card (although I suppose the alternative is possible to carry the BT with you)
Thanks for all your help today & yesterday |

I carry my Tomtom Bluetooth adapter with me and it seems OK (it's small and light).
A lot of folk just have the one GPS receiver (bluetooth) and use it for both in car, mountain biking, walking etc. There is a choice of bluetooth devices. The Fortuna clip on seems popular, so you do not need to get the Tomtom one. The point being, you may not need to spend your money getting a CF GPS as well, when the one device might suffice. Might be better spending some money on getting a CF or SD Memory card instead.
(the GPS Hardware page provides reviews of the different types of bluetooth receviers that are available). _________________ IPAQ 2210 Rom 1.00 CF 512MB

Hi Sweety - everyone you speak (including the retailers) all seem to suggest getting extra memory - either through buying a CF or SD card, in preperation I purchased a 256mb SD card for my 2210 - and I am going to get the TT3 bluetooth at the end of this month, like the above messages I would consider sticking with the TomTom reciever for use outside of the car - as it does compare quite favourably with other recievers. |

Why would you want a CF receiver for out of the car use? The CF receiver would eat away at the iPAQs battery.
I use a BT receiver for in-car and walking (the reason I chose BT in the first place - portability) and find it is perfectly adequate and allows me to have at least 6-7 hours of use from the iPAQ on a full charge.
You would be better off spending the CF receiver money on a large memory card. _________________ Ian.

when you get your kit, remember to keep the GPS receiver away from any computer stuff like your IPAQ, laptop, diskdrives etc..
The tomtom GPS (and probably others) are magnetic so they can attach to the magnetic plate. Apparently this has caught people out who have left them lying around with their other kit, only to have their data wiped.
I am soooo paranoid now 8O |
