TT3 compatability

I purchased the gps/pda bundle lidl were selling some time ago which came with the falk navigator software (uk maps). I have had a couple problems with navigating to unknown places (which could be down to non-postcode destinations) and find the voice directions a little late on info, telling me to take the third exit approaching a roundabout when I am actually on it in the wrong lane.
I am travelling to France in a couple of weeks time and hoped to buy the maps to use, but am not filled with much confidence, having problems in a foreign country seem all the more daunting.

The bundle consists of:

Typhoon My Guide 5500xl PDA (running windows mobile 2003)
Falk Navigator 2004 uk software
Holox GM 210 GPS receiver

I am seriously considering buying TT3 france maps but have been told that I need the TT3 uk maps first as this contains the software needed, and all other maps are add ons.
Does anyone know if TT3 is compatable with my PDA as I have spoken to Typhoon and Tom Tom and neither will commit to an answer?

Also has anyone else had any problems with getting a lock on enough statellites to start a journey (which is an intermittent problem from the same starting point)?
