I have a Garmin Nuvi 1690 which I use as a standby to lend to friends and family when they travel. It still works pretty well, so I tend to keep it updated using GE and the cloning method described in another post.
I know that the various NuLink services were withdrawn a while back, but last year I was still able to renew the NuLink Traffic for my Nuvi 1690.
This year, on the 10th of August, I got the usual message in the "MyGarmin" section of the device informing me to go to the website to renew the subscription.
However when I click on the renew NuLink subscription link, I get a message that the device has not been switched on - which it was.

In fact, when the device is switched on, I can hear the usual cell phone clicking signal on my PC speakers.
On looking on the unit itself I notice a red cross next to the radio tower icon.
Holding the icon down for a few seconds brings up a Network Diagnostics screen which shows various parameters IMEA, Band, etc
Driver = On
Signal strength = -51 dBm
Connection Status = Registration Denied
PDP Content = Not Established
Carrier Match = Found

Sometimes the Network Diagnostics screen only shows the line
"Off, Waiting for SIM"

I did contact Garmin Support and got a one line generic message that Nulink was no longer available. They did not mention if this now includes traffic which was still available last year. Also why then send renewal notice on the unit and the renewal option on the Garmin website?

My question: Is there a fault on the device, or has the NuLink service been killed off completely.

Rgds
