More councils seem to be following the trend to reactivate their speed cameras or add to their existing camera stock.

East Yorkshire's first average speed cameras are due to be operational on the A1079 in East Yorkshire in spring 2016. They will cover the stretches between Dunswell roundabout and Killingwold Graves roundabout and from Bishop Burton to Shiptonthorpe.

They were originally planned for spring 2014, but the process has taken a lot longer than expected.

They replace one existing static camera on that road.

A spokeswoman for Safer Road Humber, said: "We're expecting the new cameras to be installed in January, with them becoming operational at some point during the spring. All we are doing is replacing old technology that was installed in 2006 with new technology."

She added: "Average speed cameras allow motorists to manage their driving a lot better. A two-second lapse in concentration can lead to a old-style fixed camera being triggered but the new technology takes an average."

Elsewhere, Somerset drivers have been warned that one of their old speed cameras is being reactivated after workers were spotted painting white lines in front of the camera at Rooksbridge near Brent Knoll on the A38.

It's good to read that inadvertently drifting over the speed limit is recognised as not necessarily requiring a penalty to be imposed.

I'm expecting a comment from Dennis about 'drifting over the speed limit' Smile
