Just hooked up my new Fortuna Clip-on to my
4150 Ipaq running TT3.

Here's my problem:

ST Mode
Receiver takes about 5mins to find a GPS satellite link and then I only pick up 3\4 satellites. When tom navigator is on I keep losing GPS connectivity when driving around.

XT Mode
Receiver boots up much quicker but can only see around 3 satellites.

I do occasionally see 7\8 but this is very rare. I previously played around with the TOMTOM wireless that was much quicker at getting a link and gave me constant connectivity.

I live just outside London. Is this normal for a Fortuna or is this a faulty one. I may swap for the tomtom but really would prefer the fortuna.

Please help with your experience's

I'm not sure whether this is the same problem I had but I removed and reinstalled TT3 but DID NOT install the TT3 3.01 update and all my problems disappeared. I am a very happy bunny now and the fortuna is fantastic. when I get out of the blackwall tunnel it locks back in about 3 secs. my old rikaline took at least 30sec by which time I had missed my turnings. I use an ipaq 2210 and I also installed the bluetooth update.
cheers

Hi Depsi,

Have you tried the Clip-On on the roof of your vehicle (whilst stationary 8O ), and in an area with a clear view of the sky?

Once you get a decent signal, you need a minimum of 4 satellites for a 3D fix, try moving the Clip-On to different areas of your vehicle. Thumbs Up

I can often get 8 to 10 satellites with my Clip-On.

Regards,

You might also want to check your vehicle handbook. Some makes of vehicle have a laminate windscreen that doesn’t allow satellite signals to get through easy.

I know one of the models is a Peugeot 307. My brother has one and he has to place his BT GPS receiver by one of the side windows where he gets 5 - 7 sats normally. If he puts the clip near the front window it drops to 1 - 2 or nothing especially while on the move.

If you do have this type of screen and you can’t get a signal any where in the car then a re-radiating antenna help.

Regards

Andrew.

Thanks for all your help guys..

after playing around and leaving the TT3 outside for an hour. I can now get a fix and pick up 6-7 satalites regularly.

I do have to put the reciever right at the front on the edge of the dash...

also I noticed that when I go walkies with my reciever it appears to lose connection only like's getting a fiz when i'm stationary

Any Ideas ????
