Power-on via car charger

Hi,

Hopefully a simple question, to help my decision-making!

If I connect the car charger for the Clip-on BT GPS receiver to an ignition-switched power socket in the car, does the GPS unit switch on and off with ignition, or does it just toggle between internal battery and external power?

My idea is to wire it in semi-permanently, to avoid the "hassle" of switching it on and off manually each time. Occassionally I do want the portability of free-standing unit, so I'd rather not go the fixed GPS mouse route.

Hi

I have a Fortuna clip BT GPS which I have semi permanently fixed in my car by routing the charger wire under the dash and powering via a power source in the glove box.

I can’t speak for other makes of BT receivers but mine does toggle between power and battery when the ignition / power source is turned off.

Quite handy if you leave the vehicle but return in less than the battery life of approx 8 hours as you can power up your PDA and off you go as you are already tracking satellites
