i am looking to purchase an etrex vista, fugawi uk topo maps and navman st (for sat nav).
is this the best solution for me?. ie best for cost?
i want to be able to use the gps for walking (download routes to the gps and link with the pda when required) and in car navigation via the gps and palm.

If you are considering topographical maps and street routing for the Palm, why spend £245 buying an Erex Vista?
As the Tungsten T2 has Bluetooth I would consider a Bluetooth GPS receiver instead of the Etrex and Anquet over Fugawi for walking, or if the budget allows look at Memory Map, as you can plan and create your routes then download them to the PDA onto full colour OS maps.
There are some excellent Bluetooth receivers to be had such as the Fortuna Clip-on £135 or the Navman 4100 £145 or Globalsat BT-308 £155
As a comparison, you mention Navman SmartST software... The software and 4100 BT receiver can be bought together as the 4410 for £219. Thats £26 less than the Etrex on it's own.
Worth a bit of extra thought unless you have already made the decision that the Etrex is better for your needs. _________________ Ian.

The above should read the 4460 which is the Palm version and not the 4410 PPC. Same price £219. _________________ Ian.

thanks for the reply. i never thought of getting a receiver. i will look into it. the reason i looked at fugawi initally is that they are the only ones who support downloading the maps to a palm. if i was to go for the anquet, which looks alot better, how would i follow the routes that i create on the pc?
thanks again

Aah...
I tend to forget that Palm have their own OS and you have a Palm, hence the second post for the 4460 instead of 4410.
Unfortunately you are right. Anquet is not compatible with a Palm at the moment which is a shame as the software is simple but good. Sorry, I should have realised.
Not sure about Memory Map, there is no mention of compatibility on their site so it is possible the Palm is not supported.
Another alternative for topo maps could be OziExplorerCE, not as easy as the three commercial packages mentioned above as you would need to create and calibrate your own maps, this is not as daunting as it first appears, all you need is a scanner and some paper maps. _________________ Ian.
