Just bought a Nuvi 2495LMT and compared to my older Garmins it's light years ahead!! and the voice command feature is amazing
One question I can't see an answer to it's got all the speed limits and camera's working out of the box. I assume this is Cyclops which I thought was subscription based. Is this a free of charge feature in the lifetime traffic or will I get a subscribe now screen appear one day? |

Most (all?) Garmin nuvis come with a speed camera trial database. You can go onto the Garmin website and then get a trial of updates (think it lasts a month). After that you have to pay.
Of course you're perfectly free to do what many do, simply keep using the trial data and accept that it won't be fully up-to-date |

... and it won't have any of the Mobile camera sites, which are included in the PGPSW database.

It has mobile sites. As far as I can see on the garmin site it is included as standard as there is no mention of trials or subscriptions.
I have to say cyclops seems to work very well.
I'm still using ths pocketgps database on my Zumo so I'm not a total traitor |

Cyclops has 'mobile zones' which tend to be rather annoying as you get beeped at for a long range as opposed to just where mobiles are known to be used.
We have mobile sites - known locations where mobiles get used. |

I'm not being annoyed by excessive bonging but have noticed the red band at the top of the screen saying "mobile site" on for a while in some places.
I really like the speed limit being displayed all of the time.
If the pocketgps camera system was used, a- would the warnings appear in a red band at the top of the screen as per Cyclops and, b- would the speed limits still show if Cyclops was turned off? |

No they won't. The warnings appear at the top of the screen but the band is not red.

The speed limits will show. They are part of the map data, not the camera data. |

I thought it turned red if you are over the speed limit set in the speed cam database file?

Based on my 2200 - the GPS speed does turn red and I get a series of very quiet bongs for the duration I'm over the limit. The speed display is so small that you hardly notice it though.
This is where the Android CamerAlert version comes into its own as that gives a better warning, and it's directional.
I just need a bigger phone to take full advantage, my Wildfire S just doesn't cut it _________________ Satnav:

I am new to Garmin and have a Nuvi 2598. It has the included Cyclops camera database and with this loaded I get Red Warning Banners at the top of the screen. I also get a Grey Banner from the pgpsw database, due to slightly different timings. I intend to remove the Cyclops one to rely on the pgpsw version but would like to retain the Red Banner. As the Cyclops file is locked I cannot see the trigger that makes the Nuvi treat it differently to any other POI file. I assume the will be an XML tag used in the xmlschemas like the "Proximity" setting we use.
Anybody have any clues? |

The Cyclops GPI file is not created with POILoader, AFAIK/guess so there are some things that cannot be replicated, like directional.
This banner request has been made before but no solution.
You are right to use the cameras from here though as they have been proved to be updated more timely than other providers. _________________ Satnav:

Sorry for hijacking thread but I to recently have gone from Tom tom to Garmin. Still trying to find way around it. question I have is I've downloaded the camera database from here and added the voice sound alert as well, but problem I'm getting is every time I approach a camera I get notified about it and 4 to 5 times ! is there a simple fix to this
Cheers |

Yes, use one of the 2 CSV converter utilities available in the sticky section of the Garmin forum.
There are quite a few reasons for Garmin multi warnings that can be mostly overcome by using the GPX file format that allows better control. _________________ Satnav:
