As an aside to my other post in the Non-Tech Discussions.

This afternoon about 3.15pm I was proceeding clockwise around the M25 at a legal speed between the M4 and M40.
About half way between the 2 junctions I noticed the cameras flashing - about 6/7 times on the Gantry on the anti-clockwise section.
Looked like it would have been for the 2 outside lanes. I looked in mirror after passing and the Speed limit signs were not illuminated.

There was some very fast moving cars going past, being on a bike you can see and hear it easier.
So I suspect some folks will be getting notifications in the post, unless of course they don't bother.

For years it was pretty safe to assume all motorway cameras were switched off when the signs were off, but then we started getting reports and announcements that they may be switched on (only on SOME motorways?), but set at quite a high speed.

AFAIK, we still haven't had a definitive answer about what speed that might be.

I think we need some volunteers! Twisted Evil

I've also seen it on the M6 variables in the area of junction 10 when no limit was posted up.

I've seen random flashes as you describe from various cameras along the Western section, sometimes with no vehicles on the opposite carriageway where the flash occurred.

I think they throw a wobbly from time to time.

I've read the posts here and thought I would mention it because it's the first time I've seen it for myself.

I can't remember if the flashes were single or double to be honest, they certainly weren't like a 'double tap' flash, more like a single flash in one lane, flash in another and flash back in the first lane. This was like over a 20 second period maybe. Wasn't all the time, and like I say I could see a couple of cars blatting past quicker than other cars.

The quest continues!!

I've seen both types of single and double flash. I think they are false as I don't think the speed markers are legal yet ?
