Dear All,
Hoping that someone can be a life saver
This afternoon I PLUGGED IN MY 1005 Europe, mytomtom found new map 9.05, cameras , quckfix gps etc.
I selected all updates and the download began and I watched it finish, then started updating the 1005. I left the update running for 20 minutes or so, returned and the 1005 device stated it was complete and safe to disconnect.
upon restarting the device, I am faced with a screen "Select your map", my only choice is "Europe"
I click on Europe and I get a message "Problem with this map" "You cannot use this map on this device"
My only thoughts is a corrupt download?
I have reset device (holding button for 15 seconds or so)
I have emptied cache on the mytomtom
I have also tried connecting to a different pc
Connected o any PC, I get that my device is fully up to date
on the device, I cannot get anything other than the above messages.
Has anyone had similar experience and a fix?
is it possible to delete the map and re- download?
Any help much appreciated
Best Regards
Andy |

You should be able to log into MyTomTom/Manage items/select the Europe map and delete.
Then completely shut down the desktop app (choose 'exit', not 'close') do a drum reset on the unit, connect to computer, start MyTomTom, clear cache and the 'Manage items' and the map should be offered for download again.
Before any of this, make sure you have the latest (12.055, I think) app for your device installed. _________________ David |

Thanks David
I tried that but no option to delete the map.
I have now sorted it with some more searching.
If it helps, what I did was kept the device connected to the computer, held power button for 15 seconds + to get the black screen, once on black screen, pressed power button 3 times within a second and it restarts with a cog, and a fixing device type sequence.
My Tomtom first reinstalled the software 12.xxx and then reinstalled map.
It worked!!!
Many thanks for your prompt reply

Could you take me through that instruction a bit slower.
If by logging into MyTomTom you mean log in at https://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/mytomtom/overview/index.jsp? or one of the other country variants, then where does one find a display of installed maps and the option to delete one? |

I wrote that too soon. Yes, I found where the installed map(s) is/are listed but I find no delete option. TomTom's help database suggests that if one tries to install a new map that is larger than available device memory, then an already installed map can be rolled out of the device onto the PC - from where it can later be rolled back. But I still can not find any bald map delete function or the option to move maps off the device by choice rather than because of an immediate need by a different map for the memory space. If that is indeed an option, then clue please! |

MyTomTom will not allow you to delete the ONLY map on your device.
If you have both a NA and a Europe map then you should see "Delete" buttons for both of them. But once you've deleted one, you won't get a delete button for the last one.
It was one of TomTom's typical "bright ideas" to stop you being left with "no maps found", but it's absolutely no help if you want to get rid of your only map if it has become corrupted somehow!
Here's what I see currently...

Ahh........ my bad!
I misread the post and thought there were two maps installed.
Still suffering jet lag, I guess ..... [or stupidity].
Thanks, Andy. _________________ David |
