Can I sell my streetpilot III? Is there any issues about unlock codes and product registration for the new owner. Thanks! |

I sold my SPIII on ebay, as long as you give them the unlock codes then it should be ok |

Did you have to inform garmin of the new owner's details for updating the unit and mapsource owner's account information? |

No but it was out of the guarantee period, but I’m not sure that if you wanted to inform them that it would count as the warranty might only apply to the original owner, you could always email them to find out that’s if your unit is still under warranty |

Hi all, I asked Garmin this very same question regarding a change of ownership and here's what they said........
Hello,
The registerred owner needs to contact us by email or telephone to confirm
that they are no longer the owner. They must then give us your details.
Name, address, email address, tel number. They will need to confirm there
details with us when they contact ie serial number, registerred address etc. |

|
|
I own a SP3 and a Vista C.
I used the second unlock available with the City Navigator software (that was part of the SP3 package) with the Vista C. No problems, everything hunky-dory and we have full autorouting available on the handlebar... brilliant!
We decided that we would like to upgrade to a newer Streetpilot... or maybe even an Ipaq. I emailed Garmin to seek a way forward in legally "splitting" the software so that I could still use my Vista C. I expected to get a single use unlock or some other solution from Garmin.
To my surprise, I was advised to make copies of the discs I had and retain a copy of the unlock codes, passing on the originals discs and paperwork on to the new owner.
Their logic was simple - the software has been unlocked twice and is now locked to these two Garmin GPS units by their internal serial numbers. The codes will only ever work with these two specific units - end of story. |
