Hi
Re: Nick Perry vocals. There does not seem to be a vocal warning for 'speed zoned complete' 'specs_var'.
There are specs_var files for the bitmap and xl files but no matching mp3 file.
Can someone please advise.
I may need stronger glasses or a better brain but please bear with me if I have missed something.
Thanks |

No, looks like you've been to Specsavers. Other opticians are also available.
When Nick kindly recorded the mp3s, it was not expected that there would be variable Specs cameras around (there's now 4 at the Hindhead Tunnel on the A3).
As far as the icons went, I just did the lot regardless of whether they were in use or likely to be used. It's also much easier to create a new bitmap than to get someone back in to record an alert and have it sound the same as his others.
If you wish to continue using the unsupported Nick Perry voice, it may be worth checking the other downloads and nabbing the mp3 for variable Specs from one of them.

Most of those old voice packs have one or more bits missing, simply because either the camera types didn't exist at the time they were made (such as 20mph Gatsos, or varaible SPECS) or the people who made them for their own use but then shared them with the community, just didn't use some of the camera types (eg the pMobiles are sometimes missing).
As Gerry mentioned in passing, they are unsupported, and that's why. They are just there now as a free extra to take or leave.
PGPSW paid for some new voice packs to be recorded and edited, which are all complete, and those ones are supported and available to download at the same time as the camera data downloads.
Having said all that, it would probably be easy to make a "SPECS Var" for Nick Perry from bits of the other warnings.
I'll download it and have a look. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-)

Well, that was the work of a moment.
Here's a freshly minted Nick Perry including a "SPECS variable" in the same style as all the others.
Garmin Nick Speedzoned re-edit (right click and "Save as...")
I'll see if I can get Darren to re-upload the version on the website to include it. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Thanks for the update.
That was unexpected. Brilliant response from you and PocketGPSWorld.
I realised too late, when I first asked the question, that the particular voice pack is as stated, "unsupported", and certainly under those circumstances could not really expect much so I am very impressed with your response.
Many thanks for a surprisingly good service.
I have recently renewed my annual sub. and hope that others in these difficult times can afford to renew.
Driving, for me, would be a very different experience without PGPSW in my satnav.
Long may you prosper! |
