Afternoon all,

As I've got a new Tomtom I've given my old 520 to my Dad. I'm now trying to copy his favourites, bridge heights warnings and saved POI's from the 710 onto the 520.

Just want to ask before I go ahead and do it, but is it just a case of copying the Bitmap files and the OV2 files from the old Western Europe folder of the 710 into the 520's United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland folder?

Thanks

For the Custom POI you need to copy the files that end ov2 and bmp, there should be one of each of those files per category.

For the Favourites you need to copy the MapSettings.cfg file although this might not work with the newer device as the map data from an x10 model to x20 is considerably different, to be honest I would convert the Favourites to an ov2 file, you can find out how to do that on This Page - Mike

Thanks Mike,

Got them copied now, decided not to bother with the favourites in the end as there were only 5 and not that important. Cheers

erm....... seemed to have dropped a bit of a clanger when I did this, as now some of the default POI such as cash machine, garages, post offices are no longer appearing, my Dads told me there all turned on but are not showing. apparently they were working before I transferred the data across. Guess I may have accidently deleted something I shouldn't have.

Any chance someone could tell me which file there in/file name so I can checked that there still in the right place.

The default POIs are stored in the file poi.dat. It's stored in the Current Map Folder, and is specific to that particular map.

Do you have a Backup?

You can always download them from this site (look for the "Free POIs" icon on the right of the screen). In many cases, they are more accurate than TomTom's default POIs.

Thanks Daggers will give those a look.

Not had chance to have a look yet but spoke to my dad this morning and he tells me the garages are displaying but nothing else.

That's good news, really.

As Oldboy said above, ALL the built-in POIs are stored in one file, called poi.dat.
So if he's seeing the built-in Garages the file must be there OK and it's just that he's no longer got them set up to "show on map" for some reason.

That should be easy to get sorted out in the "Manage" POI menu. Go to "Show POI on map" and go down the list, ticking the ones he wants to see.

Does that mean I can delete that file on my 720 and get rid of the awful TomTom POIs that just get in the way of the good ones from here?

I don't know about later Navcores, but on 7.9xx, and earlier, the answer is yes. Smile

Nothing is lost is you copy the file to another location, say the Root Folder. It's still available if things go 'pear shaped'.

Ok so got my dad's 520 now hooked it up to my laptop and gone into the memory card, I can see all the items ov2 and Bitmap images which I copied from the old sat nav as well as the poi.dat file (2.842kb) all the new and old poi are ticked but they still don't seem to show up on. Also tried to install some of the free poi's from here, but these don't show up either. What really confuses me is that the Airport POI's are showing.

EDIT - bit extreme I know but I've done a factory restore and all the POI's are working now, went and copied all the old saved data back on and there all gone again.

On the 520 can you go to change preferences/ manage maps/ switch maps and report back whats listed as I think you might have multiple maps spread between the card and the internal flash store, this leads to confusion as to where to put the POI files - Mike

I seem to have got it working now I've manually been through all the POI and moved them over one by one to see if any of them are removing the POI. Noticed a few Autovelox_IT_TomTom and Blitzer_AT_TomTom files which I guess are European poi's (maybe its throwing a wobblier cos of those?). Thanks

Those are the useless TomTom Speed Camera files, you can remove them if you want to - Mike
