Adding POI's and speed alerts on a micro sd card

I recently bought a Nuvi 1340 which came with a fairly extensive set of POI's and camera alerts. However, I want to add some extra POI's to those already installed.

Is the best way to do this by loading them onto a micro sd card, and if I do that, will the Nuvi use both the pre-installed set and also those on the micro sd?

Is there any reason why you want to put them onto a card? You should have enough room on your nuvi to do this, depending on which maps you have installed.

However if you do put them onto a card the nuvi will read them, but they need to be in a root folder named POI. Your nuvi will then merge them with the others that you have. Note though that additional POIs are stored differently to the Garmin supplied POIs and you access them differently. Unfortunately what is not merged is the search facility.

To access user installed POIs you need to go to Where to, Extras and not Where to, Points of Interest

The only reason I was going to use the micro sd was because I thought this might avoid any conflict with the existing POI files. However, after reading your helpful explanation, I realise that this is not the case.
