|
|
I usually have my unit set to - Automatic Power Saving - Always on. For several months now after a few hours use the device powers off - I have to turn it back on - wait for it to get a lock and then re-activate my route.
Once its done it once it happens again at increasingly regular intervals.
I've sent the unit back several times - several problems have been solved - the unit now reads the SD card without me having to remove and re-insert it and water ingress has been stopped but its still powering off.
One chap I spoke to at Satmap said it sounded like motherboard problems - I sent it in and they sent it back - I assumed they had replaced the motherboard under the 2 year warranty but it still powers off.
I spoke to another chap at Satmap on Monday this week - he suggested setting Automatic Power Saving to - Off after 120 minutes - and make sure that I pressed a button at least every 2 hrs so it did'nt turn off - I have done this and been out with it on the bikemount for 7 hours today and it worked.
Problem is I can't make myself feel totally happy having to set it to 'off after 120 minutes' in order to keep it switched on.
Is this a common problem?
Should I live with it or send it in again before the warranty runs out at the end of this month? |

If it is not working as it should I would have no hesitation in returning it to Satmap for a proper repair,as you say the warranty runs out shortly so any problem after that you are going to end up paying for.
What you have been instructed to do is simply a workaround.
If Satmap can't cure it then they should replace the unit I would have thought.

Faulty, I have mine set to always on and this never happens. Typically have it on for 4-5 hours but 8 hours is not uncommon, this is with a 2 1/2 year old unit. |

Does this happen at any time or just when it's raining ? I've seen problems of water ingress into the battery compartment causing this. |

It ran with no problems for almost 18 months (except not reading the SD card unless I removed it and reinserted it - but that seems to have been solved now). The first time it powered off, about 4 hrs in to a 200k Audax ride, it was raining - it was thought that water ingress at the USB port was the cause - Satmap fitted a new cover but the unit has continued to power off for no aparant reason, whatever the weather - even after I had it serviced.
Thanks for the advice - does anyone know if a defective motherboard would be a likely cause? (I have to admit a sad lack of knowledge of the subject). |
