I have just bought another refurbed 530 after damaging my 6month old one, which i was pleased with.
The new one when asked if i wanted to connect to comp just went blank, now I cant boot it up at all,I have tried holding the reset button in for 15 seconds to no avail.
I have already had the unit turned on and working but now its dead.
Any ideas guys?

The 530 should have a reset pin hole underneath. It's a very small hole next to the Line Out socket.

Insert a paper clip in there to reset it. Holding down the Power Button does not reset this model.

I've used this image of a 530 teardown to illustrate where the reset hole is located. You don't need to disassemble to reach it though!

Does the power light illuminate when it is connected to your computer? Perhaps try leaving it connected for an hour or so in case it's a dead battery?

Yes the power light is illuminated,on my previous model the unit would boot up when connected to the comp. even with a flat battery.
I will leave it connected for a few more hours.

Just remember that the green light ONLY shows power getting to the unit, NOT that it's charging, so it could be a dead battery & still get the green light.

I think refurbs are ones which have been returned with faults during the warranty period. If there are several faults, it seems possible that one may sneek through the refurb process. I have a 530 and have never head of a complete failure to boot unless the battery or internal memory has failed, or the screen has packed up. There are things you could try but they would assume a serious fault - so I'd return it if I were you.

I think i have sorted it ,in a fashion Rolling Eyes
When the unit was in its docking station and asked if you wanted to connect to the comp, pressing yes resulted in it switching off, with no amount of resetting bringing it back to life.
This morning I plugged it into the car charger then pressed the reset, this resulted in the tomtom coming back to life.
Tried the docking station again, dead tomtom.
So,instead of connecting to the comp with the docking station,i used a camera connector(i did'nt realise you could use one of these,I thought the docking station had some sort of inbuilt charger, thanks PGPSW),this meant when it crashed i could get to the reset button and therefore boot up the unit and see it in windows explorer.
Simples Evil or Very Mad
After reading the trouble other people have had with tt customer service,I might perservere with it.
