How to sell my TomTom?

I got very lucky last week and won a TomTom Western Europe app for my iPhone.
I think that I can now sell my TomTom 720, but how do I do that safely?
I assume that if I reset it to factory default, it will erase all my favourites and POI's (including our PGPSW camara database).
Will my TomTom login e.mail address also be erased?
If everything is successfully erased, what version of map will be installed (if any)?

It seems to involve a Factory Reset, and deleting ttgo.bif?

I would wait and try the iPhone app for a while before getting rid of the 720, whilst I find navigation on a phone is good it's nowhere near as user friendly, or indeed visible in a car as a TomTom

You will need to remove the POI files using Windows Explorer, whatever map you have on the device when you do the "Restore Factory Defaults" will remain the same, this doesn't change.

As for using the iPhone for navigation, make sure you have it powered from the car while in use as all GPS nav applications are rather power hungry.

The speaker in the iPhone isn't very loud, if your car supports A2DP bluetooth consider routing the iPhone audio through the car system, bluetooth offers best solution for audio quality and no wires, an FM Transmitter is OK depending upon your location and availability of a free frequency, the other option is to use a wired connection to the aux input of the car stereo, if you experiance interference when doing this fit a "Ground Loop Issolator" between the iPhone and th ecar deck - Mike

Do not sell as others have recommended.

A GO 720 will be better than any Iphone app, and will not be worth any more than £50 on the used market less any ebay fees.

I am keeping my 930 as a backup for my GO 1000, even though the 1000 works near enough perfect.

Well, I definitely am having second thoughts about selling the 720 now.

I have about a dozen favourites on the 720 and I have copied them manually to the iPhone. I also have loads of PGPSW POI's, but there is no way that I can import them to the phone.

I will see how it works on a long unfamiliar journey, because to be honest I have only used it to go to work and back home yet!

Mentioning the iPhone...

Has anybody else tried the FREE Navigation App called NavFree ??

The maps on it are near enough bang up to date - at least it shows the HAMPTON area around Peterborough on it.

Most of the traffic corrections I've been making to TT/TeleAtlas for YEARS are already implemented on it...

Just wondering if anybody else had used it, that's all...

Just a damn pity that TT's Maps are not as up to date as the App's is!!!

I haven't quite got to the point yet of my iPhone replacing my TT, and agree with you on the quality of the mapping "out in the sticks"

Just signed up to OpenStreetMap.org, and will make corrections as I spot them...

I've just had a quick look at OpenStreetMap.org and maybe it's because I live oop north but there are loads of places around here missing from the maps. As MaFt says it's ok for free, but there again Google maps are free, I can do a full post code search on them and most of the places I want are mapped - I think I'll stick to TomTom & Google

I was going to say how OSM maps are missing about half the roads around here (Kendal), but having just had a look someone has done a really good job. It may be a work in progress, but progress is certainly being made.
