Started TOMTOM home to update my One XL .. it said new program was available and didn't allow me the option of not doing it ..
but it fell down on the Luxembourg Flag (I don't have Europe, anyway) and it won't do any other update (map corrections etc ..)
is there a fix ..
went on the TOMtom forum but it won't let me start a thread even though I am registered ..

oops no .....
after several attempts, powered everything off, changed my socks, and powered on again .. explorer said it had found something wrong, so I let it look at it .. seemed to fix something .. tried update again and it worked
and it's working now ..
sorry to have put up a hare |

Presume you're now going to do a full backup?
Worth doing before any update. |

How to backup - simple with Windows Explorer. Connect to computer and fire up Explorer - you must have done this already once if you saw Explorer checking.
Create a new folder/directory on your PC's hard disk - give it a meaningful location and a name - e.g. TTBackup 2011-04-13.
Copy and paste the entire contents of the TT into it. Job done.
If you do an update on 20th April, create another new folder/directory TTBackup 2011-04-20. Copy and paste again. Do it every time.
POIs not showing - looks like you lost your settings and without a backup all you can do is make them show up again - Change Settings, Manage POIs. Or if you Browse Map, Options, Points of Interest, then bottom left tap POI and tick them. _________________ Dennis

Has anyone EVER seen a hidden file or folder on a TomTom? (other than something spurious put on there by your own PC or Mac)
I maintain there aren't any. |

Andy, over at TTF, I do remember a poster from some time ago who mentioned that somehow some file (I don't remember what is was) on his unit did indeed become hidden till he changed the attribute on it.
He never knew how it became hidden in the first place...
But I think that's the only time I've come across that _________________ David |

The demo mp3 tracks and audio book files on the x20/ x30 models were certainly hidden when the devices were released, not too sure about anything else though - Mike |

BINGO!!
That was it, Mike. The poster wanted to know how to dump the demo.mp3 file and, for the longest time, couldn't find it. It was indeed hidden.
Thank heavens I have people around who can remember back earlier than breakfast today! _________________ David |

Well, I can remember back to your breakfast time, but ours is asking too much of my dimension. _________________ Dennis
