|

I have my GO 530 set to warn me when I am over the speed limit but sometimes it is very slow/late to go off ! For instance, it might not sound an alarm until I'm doing about 38 mph in a 30mph zone.
Whereas Tripmaster 2.5 (which I have in use simultaneously) on my old GO 500 reacts immediately !
Is there any way to speed up it's reaction time ? Maybe by deleting or disabling other functions ? |

My understanding was that it triggers at 5mph over the limit. I never use the function, because the speed limit data appears to be so inaccurate at times.
I don't know if there is a built-in time delay. _________________ Richard

As Oldboy says, it triggers at 5mph over the limit, but most speedometers over read by around 10%, so 38mph on the speedo is probably a true speed of 35mph, and is the speed registered by your satnav. _________________ Anita

If you set the status bar to 'show speed next to the speed limit', you will see that it triggers about 4mph above the limit, but it does take a while to speak up, I'd guess about 200 yards. _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

It's different for different models and software versions too. |

My comparisons are NOT with the vehicle speedometer but with the display from Tripmaster which is on my other satnav (my old Go 500)
BTW, The same problem exists on that one too ! The Tom Tom warning is much slower/later than the Tripmaster warning. |

Nothing you can do, I'm afraid. Live with it, or turn it off. |

Yes - my Carminat TomTom (built in) goes off immediately the vehicle goes over the limit by as little as 1mph. PS - for all those who are about to jump on me because I say I don't speed, I discovered this when entering a changed speed limit area where the TT is wrong (e.g. 40mph over the Severn Bridge motorway - thank you MapShare verified by TT, incorporated in map 860). _________________ Dennis

I prefer the alternative - the mk1 eyeball. _________________ Richard

I suspect with evolution it is mk 1,000,000+ eyeball ;) - personally I use tomtom as a backup for when eyeball missed speed limit sign because signs overgrown/concentrating on where pedestrians were etc. when on unfamiliar roads
OP: - I find it triggers at about 4 miles over limit - but it takes time to respond, so often I am already slowing down by time it triggers when I over take so I think there must be a delay as well as a tolerance[/i] _________________ J. |

Don't forget there are the two overlimit options, wanr when over the speed for the road and also there is warn when over a certain settable speed. If these happen to be similar say around 75 mph it can get very noisy whilst driving.
I also remeber my old TT turning the map display off above a certain set speed and I am not sure that that is still a function. _________________ Drivelux |

Yes, I never understood that particular "safety feature".
I guess the thinking was that it was to stop you being distracted by the map when travelling fast, but all that happened was the sudden disappearance of the map was FAR more likely to distract you! |
