tom tom recording distance travelled?

Hi,

I have Tom Tom 3 and had great success with it just driving from A to B. Does anyone know if it is possible to calculate the distance travelled if you are walking or cycling on footpaths/byeways not in the Tomtom database? I'm thinking of something like these Garmin type GPS thingys...

Not using TomTom, something like Memory-Map would do that though, see our Topographical reviews section or www.memory-map.co.uk
