i decided to format my tt and connect it to tomtom home, it downloaded a new version of the software, taking me from 7.903 to a 8 something.
when it booted up (after copying my map folder back) it said no maps found.
my map version according to the tt is v850.2820 can this map not be used with the new software. ?
does this mean that if i upgrade the software, tomtom expect me to buy new maps . |

Moved to TT PND Forum
That map is only one version old as the current one is 855 and there should be no issues with the map and the NavCore 8.
Did you take a backup of the device before you did the update? |

This sort of thing has happened before and has been fixed. I'm looking for the answer but I moved the thread here as it'll have a better chance of the right person seeing it. |

Download the "Clear Flash" utility from the TomTom.com web site and run that three times then re-install the map and see what it does - Mike |

right so here is the state of play
after formatting the card, then connecting it to TTH here are the files that are shown on the SD card.
i cant tell you what version of navcore is on it as i cant get to that screen
Folder "GL"
Folder "Programs"
Folder "voices"
Data.chk
install.bif
libaec.so
reflush log
system
tthome.bif
ttsystem
which is a fair few files and folders less than was on there before the format
so after doing that i ran the CF tool three times, allowing for the unit to reboot between each flash and then copied the old map folder down to the unit,
and i still get no maps found.
however the following folders and files have now been added
Folder "contacts"
Folder "itn"
Folder"logging"
settings.dat
ttgo.bif
folder "United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland"
United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland-5E2662F6.mds
Any ideas |

Open ttgo.bif with Notepad and there is a line called "ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=" that tells you what is on the device. _________________ Richard

hi
that file doesnt exist until the first time the unit is rebooted, here's the contents of it
[TomTomGo]
DeviceName=TomTom Go
DeviceVersionHW=ONEv4
DeviceSerialNumber=REMOVED
DeviceUniqueID=REMOVED
RamDiskVersion=20061211
BootLoaderVersion=550
LinuxVersion=1713
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=6560
ApplicationVersion=7914
UserLanguage=English UK
here is the original ttgo.bif contents from the backup copy of the files
[TomTomGo]
DeviceName=TomTom ONE
DeviceVersionHW=ONE (v4)
DeviceSerialNumber=REMOVED
DeviceUniqueID=REMOVED
RamDiskVersion=20081205
BootLoaderVersion=53029
LinuxVersion=2344
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=7903
ApplicationVersion=9183
UserLanguage=English UK
seems that the the "ApplicationVersionVersionNumber" is lower on the new files than on the old one, which means that a downgrade has been done to the navcore i think
Device serial number and unique device ID removed. PaulB2005 |

What happens if you do an Explorer copy/paste of all the Backup Files, that have the later ttgo.bif File, back to the Device?
It should overwrite the existing files and boot up as a 7.903
Or am I missing something? _________________ Richard

You say you have formatted the device and connected to HOME.
Have you restored a copy of the map at any stage? HOME will not replace the map for you? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi
right @oldboy
the unit boots up as 7.903 with the original files on it
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=7903
but when i remove all the files and format the drive and then connect it to home it shows this
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=6560
this suggests that home puts on an earlier version of navigator.
@Darren
once the unit has downloaded the files it shows "no maps found" which is because as you say Home does not download the maps for you, however when i copy the map folder back and reboot it i still get "no maps found" is this because the version of map is v850.2820 and the application version nunber is 6560.?
im starting to think i bought this off ebay with hooky maps on it... |

ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=6560 | Is this HOME reporting this Version?
Is this before, or after, HOME installs the application?
If it is after HOME has installed the application, it must be the only Application located in the TomTom Program Folder on the PC.

dear god im going dizzy trying to keep track of this and i bet you lot are too..
right when i first bought the tomtom off ebay i made a backup of the files, all files and folders and maps.
its application version according to the onscreen display is 7.903
..................
Now when i remove all the files off the card using explorer and connect it to home it installs various files, at this point i cannot get to a point to read the application version as it shows no maps (i know why......i dont have a map folder on the tt at this point) so if i open ttgo.bif it shows as having application version 6560.
what do you mean by the statement
"If it is after HOME has installed the application, it must be the only Application located in the TomTom Program Folder on the PC."
and do excuse me if i sound stupid
Now my question is, why do i have a later version of the application on my tomtom, where has it come from and why does home insists on downgrading my application.? |

At a guess its running a "bent" map with a modified Navcore in order to get it to see and use the "bent" map. Loading a true genuine Navcore renders the unit unable to see the map, if you purchase a new map via TomTom Home it will install it and use it quite happily.
The above is a pure guess but it is based on the symptoms you describe and sadly isn't unusual for e-bay purchases - Mike |
