|
|
Hi Folks,
I have a Garmin 1340 which I purchased to replace my not-long-for-this-world TomTom One.
One thing I can't find a way to do is to have the POI displayed on the map. Neither the standard, Garmin-provided POI nor my Custom POI.
The PocketGPS speed cameras do appear, and the alerts work just fine, no problem with that at all.
But in the TomTom there was a setting where you could select which POI to have displayed on the maps.
Not with alerts, just displayed so you see them as you go by them - cash points, petrol stations and a few other useful ones. I'm guessing this must be possible with the 1340. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be very appreciative.
Thanks in advance. |

By the way, I've searched and trawled the existing posts but can't find anything that answers this query. Sorry if it is a common newbie question. |

They do show up if you have zoomed into the 2-d map enough.
On the 3-d map they show up if you navigate to one of them.
But I'd like them to just be there, whether they are the destination or not. |

The only way to do it would be to set them up to have Proximity Alerts by using the Manual Mode in POILoader. See the manual for more details.
The alerts get rather annoying quickly BTW...
And have too many on display and it'll slow the unit down... |

Thanks, I'd come to that conclusion myself, and I don't want tohave to put up with the alerts, so I guess I'll learn to live without the POI on the map.
Thanks for the reply, anyway. |

Well if you set them as speed alerts and set them to the maximum value (124mph), they shouldn't trigger too often
Incidentally, you can do this without using 'manual' mode in POILoader - add the digits "124" to the POI filename.
If you want full control, you could copy the POIs into a Custom Map (maps can contain a variety of elements, not just roads). That way, you could fully control the zoom levels at which icons appear (and/or disappear). It's quite a complex subject in its own right - and it gets more so, if you want your own icons, rather than the ones built into the device.
I'd recommend this, as a starting point: http://mapman.org.uk/. It's one of many front-end guis for the 'cgpsmapper' (http://www.cgpsmapper.com/) |

Thanks for the extra info.
I think the custom map thing is going to be beyond me to be honest, but I might try the 124mph trick.
I'll append _124 to the .csv file and see how I get on. |

Well, I don't know what happened, but the custom POI are showing up on the main map whilst driving now, using the little icon I provided, so it all seems to work. But I have no idea what made it start doing it in my preferred way.
Thanks for all the info and suggestions anyway. |

Do you think it was the 124 thing ?
If not, you talk about a custom icon. What did you do here ?
Cheers,
