A couple of suggestions for the i3, if you haven't tried already (no suggestions for your son! Twisted Evil Razz ):

- connect it to your computer and see if any files show up (can't remember now exactly what the interface is). If so, have you a backup you can reload (please don't tell me you didn't take one before the update Embarassed ?);

- try a hard reset. Again memory fails me but you probably know - if not you should find the 'how' in a thread on here if you search on "i3" and "dead", or something similar;

This may not work of course - interrupting upgrades is VERY bad news. If not, try Garmin next. They will probably say 'don't do anything with them now', but you never know. Rolling Eyes

If no one else comes up with anything more helpful, then either have a look at ebay, or think about a new unit! Sad

BTW were you trying to load new maps? A couple of people on here who've been having trouble finding updates might find it useful if you were.

To reset an i3 you need to depress both buttons and the scroll wheel at the same time - Mike

A couple of 'last ditch' suggestions you might like to try (not confident!):

1) put it where it can get a signal, switched on for a couple of hours. Sometimes it can take a while after changes to come to life properly;

2) Put new batteries in, then do (1) again.

No luck after that? Grrrr Exclamation Exclamation

Have just done the same on a new Nuvi 265W.
The supposed update was shown as 3.2 GB and I thought it was D/L to my PC not the 265.
The Nuvi was only plugged in to recharge.
Trouble with the reset procedure is is says to power on then press lower RHS screen. HOW do I know when power is on/off when the little s#d is dead?
