I have come up with an idea for a mute system for GPS/PDA voice navigation system that could mute the stereo when the PDA says something.
Im guessing it could be made quite easily by an electronice firm as the technology required is already in use but in a different area, its just a matter of combining 2 or 3 technologies into the one.
How do I find out if this idea has been thought of before and who can I approach to maybe market it.
There is a good possibility that its been thought of before as the idea is so so simple but the simple things are often overlooked.

Since it requires access to the car stereo (I assume) you may want to talk to a manufacturer of car stereos. Make sure you also search this site and the web, we had this topic multiple times. _________________ Lutz

I made some posts about this in the past - the problem is that if you use the phone mute line and phone input, most stereos are too slow to switch and the beginning of the voice command is clipped off. You could use an external speaker and still assert the phone mute input, though.
Some stereos already have a dedicated navigation system input - it's obviously best to use that if possible.
Finally, QuBIT have various gadgets - though I'm unsure whether the PDA Sound System does what I want, even when wired correctly into the stereo's wiring loom - which is take over the speaker nearest the driver (in a UK car, front right) for the voice command, then return it to the stereo when the PDA is not outputting any sound. Darren's review indicates it might - I'm intending to contact QuBIT to find out exactly what is possible.
On my setup (Vauxhall Zafira), the carphone wiring is already wired up to a phone car kit - if you want details on that (which should cover just about any Vauxhall with a VDA loom, and, to an extent, other brands with a VDA loom) click here (I wrote that Word document - note the disclaimers in it).
