I've just bought a Tomtom XL IQ routes (UK & ROI) and have a quick question about the signal strength display.
Firstly, there are 5 bars which increase in size. As I drive they change colour. I was wondering if these actually mean something specific, or do they just give an indication of satellite strength.
Secondly, underneath that it shows the speed you are driving, but sometimes it changes to a number. I have noticed 35/70, 9/50 etc. Any idea what these numbers mean. I can't find anything in the instruction book.
Thank you

Bars indicate satellite strength - more bars, more satellites.
Single figure indicates your present road speed (likely to be more accurate than your speedo!).
35/70 indicates your present speed (35mph) on a road TT reckons has a speed limit of 70mph. Similarly, 9/50 indicates 9mph in a 50mph limit. Be wary here, since TT road limits are not very accurate! However, the PGPSWorld camera database is deadly accurate generally - ignore its warnings at your peril. |

Thanks for that quick reply!
Makes perfect sense now that you mention it.
9/50 - it was all icy! |

Last bit of the puzzle... you mentioned the colour of the bars.
If the bars are grey, it means the unit is receiving the satellite signals, but hasn't done all the maths to work them out yet. Once they turn blue, you should have a good "lock" and it will know your position. |
