Just bought an XL-live with European mapping, having been using a Nuvi 200W for the last year or so. Attracted by the better display of information when driving (no speed on the Nuvi when navigating), plus the live route information and re-routing on the XL-live.
On connecting the new unit to my computer and firing up TomTom Home (a piece of s/w I am sure I shall come to hate, judging by comments elsewhere on this forum) I was offered a free map update. I accepted this, and the d/l of about 2Gb started. Unfortunately we then had a major disruption to the Internet connection, so the d/l timed out with (so the bar said) about 50% left to go.
Subsequently I reconnected and the s/w said something like "we notice that there's a failed download - go to 'update my xl' and the download will restart."
I did that, the d/l restarted and then failed again (TomTom server not responding). So I then reconnected the unit, was invited to go to "update" again, but now I'm told that the unit is up to date, and am simply being offered speed camera files. (Just seen that the S/W recognises the unit needs updating and is now offering to SELL me the files. Aargh! )
To say that this is frustrating is to put it mildly. Has anyone any ideas?! In particular, how do I *force* TomTom home to see that the maps are out of date and to offer the update FOC?

It could be that the Map has downloaded to your PC, but not been installed to the Device.
Have you checked if the Device has the latest Map, or not?
Tap the satellite graphic and then the box with the version number.
If the update has gone through, then the 5th line should show that you have an 840.xxxx Map.
If it doesn't then connect the Device to the PC and bring up HOME.
Click on "Add Traffic, Voices, etc".
On Page 4 of 4 Click on "Items on my computer".
There should be an entry for "Maps". Click on the Map "bar" and it will show which maps are stored on your PC. Click the "More info" button and if you can see an 840.xxxx Map then use "ADD" button to install it to the Device. _________________ Richard
