I'm a total novice to this but all I need is longitude and latitude of any spot that I'm standing. The handhelds I see for sale are way to much for me to spend and have too many bells and whistles. Does anyone know if I can get some kind of a handheld that just delivers long/lat nothing else.

I've been to a few web sites that are not that accurate. I have not tried software but I really don't want to carry my laptop around.

Does anyone know if I can get some kind of a handheld that just delivers long/lat nothing else or know of another solution besides the internet.

Mike

How about the Microsoft programs? Streets and Trips or Mappoint? Some of these are really cheap, and they always show you lon/lat

Your best bet would be a secondhand handheld receiver from somewhere like eBay, the excellent Garmin GPS12 can often be had for £50 or less and will provide Lat/Lon (and a host of other features but then the majority do that).

Only the very first generation of receivers offered Lat/Lon and nothing else, these were also 8 channel, had poor sensitivity and are not worth considering.
