A friend is planning a Motorhome trip to North Africa and has asked me to help source a SatNav which he could use in Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt. I cannot locate one and would be grateful if anyone can help. Morocco may be possible but the others are doubtful it seems to me.
The purpose would be partly for navigation purposes but also he has loads of Lat/Long coordinates of campsites which he would want to add as POI's. He will have no reliable access to the Internet so he could not rely on Google Earth in any way.

Most importantly your friend needs to determine if you are allowed to use GPS in all of those above countries. Apparently the ban on GPS devices in Egypt was only lifted in April 2009, see here for further details.
Secondly, I'd invest in the best paper maps, compass, and hand-held/vehicle mountable GPS unit that can also be connected to a laptop. plus a laptop with all of the way points. Then ensure that I could use all of the maps/compass/GPS together.
As for SatNav for Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt I honestly don't know. I'll leave that to others on this forum with more experience in that area to advise you.

Robert - Thank you for the guidance. I think we have discovered that a SatNav is not allowed in Tunisia but it was interesting to hear they had removed the restriction in Egypt which implies that someone has or will now be allowed to map the country. The same must apply to those without restrictions.
