You'll get nearly as many different answers to that as there are users. It's fine on my 720, but other x20 users have problems, eg with reduced volume.
Why not try it for yourself? I always install new software onto an SD card rather than internal memory. The device will boot from the card if one is present. If you want to revert to your previous version you can just remove the card.
However, the latest maps installed to the internal memory even if the card was selected, so it may be safer to copy the previous Navcore to the card, then install 8.351 to the internal memory without the card in the device. You can revert to 8.302 by inserting the card.
Make sure you do a Windows backup before installing the new software to either place. _________________ Anita

Because I was forwarned about the map getting written to internal when that was not selected, I made sure I chose no other updates at the same time I got my new map yesterday. IOW, I unchecked the gpsfix and mapshares (like they would be of value, eh?)
Anyway, my map went to the sdhc card I selected on bootup, not to internal as well.
Did you by chance have anything else checked--besides the map--when you dl your map? _________________ David |

No, David, I made sure nothing else was checked. I also triple checked that the card was selected, as I never choose to install new maps or software to the internal memory until I'm sure there are no issues.
It didn't really matter, as I was able to copy my backup to the card, but thought I should warn kery, as I believe some users found that once they had installed 8.350, even after reinstalling earlier software from a backup, the volume issue was still present.
Incidentally, unlike DennisN whose map was installed to both, my map was only installed to the internal memory. The card was still blank. _________________ Anita

My 520 with RDS TMC traffic plugged in gives me problems with the screen refresh.
I get a blank screen every 10 -15 seconds, which until you experience is one of the most annoying bugs yet introduced. Try using it at night you get a flash as the screen just draws the background which is much lighter on its own than with roads and other details on screen.
I am using 8.301 with the latest maps and will continue to do so until the screen refresh bug is fixed. _________________ TT520 running App 8.351 & map UK&I v845.26345

Yet I've experienced no problems with the screen refresh, either with or without the RDS-TMC receiver (USB type) plugged in. _________________ Anita

Interesting Anita,
I might try the clear flash tool and reinstall. How TT can make a device that gives such differing issues with the same device is beyond me.
I have downloaded and installed the latest maps with no issues; however some are having terrible issues.
I can believe the TT device is that complicated that it should give such differing results every time. _________________ TT520 running App 8.351 & map UK&I v845.26345

I get it all the time when the round pin TMC receiver is plugged in. Maybe the problem isn't there with the USB one. _________________ Gerry

Yes mine is the round pin type. - did not spot the USB
Maybe I'll hold back on the clear flash.
Also just noticed I am running 8.302. _________________ TT520 running App 8.351 & map UK&I v845.26345

I have NEVER understood why Anita NEVER has any problems with her 720. Everybody else has at least one problem!
Anyway, I didn't have anything else selected when I downloaded the map and it installed on both the internal memory and the SDHC card. The only differences I can think of was I had App 8.351 on internal and App 8.302 on the card, plus I've only been using the card, so it would have a more up to date Mapsettings.cfg, BUT the internal version did have a used Mapsettings.cfg file (not the default creation). _________________ Dennis

Dennis, has it ever occurred to you that maybe I don't really have a satnav at all, and that's why I don't have any problems? _________________ Anita

Hah!! Don't try that one. Listen everybody, Anita has a GO720 which she won from the free competition here. It was a special edition from TomTom which works and she won it in spite of me entering the same competition and I was a far more deserving cause and I've had to buy God knows how many GOs to try and get a working one. My "Never understand" quip was a bit of a fib, because I know that's why she has one which never goes wrong and always works first time with every download. I sometimes wish East Sussex was in Bristol so that I could sneak up on her and pinch it. _________________ Dennis
