Try resetting the 540 then connect it to the PC again - you reset an x40 by pressing and holding the on/ off switch untill the device plays a drum roll and powers back up - you won't lose any settings doing this - Mike |

Hi Mike and thanks for the advise it is now working BUT How about this
from the the short time to me posting and your answer I phoned tomtom support spoke to some guy who was more interested in my account than
sorting the problem. He asked where i purchased it from then said send it back to them. I explained that everything is working except for the current problem and I felt that there could not be much wrong but he said well as i only got it today send it back. Thank god for people like you who at least try to help so thanks again mike and thtttt to tomtom |

I would try phoning them back if you know who it was you spoke to - the reset is the most basic advice their CS team should be offering - still its not the first time they have been miles of the mark with a proposed fix.
Glad the problem is resolved though - now do a full back up using Windows Explorer - Mike |

Latest maps have marked a lot more roads as "private" or otherwise not available to vehicles. You can change your road back to normal using MapShare if it is wrong. |

Have a read of the FAQ page which can be found by clicking Here Backing up is #1 on the list, but you might want to take a little time to read some of the others for further information - Mike |
