I was offered this update when synching with PC this morning. It's bricked my phone and I'm stuck in recovery mode with no way for the PC to recognise it.

I'm currently working through solutions mentioned by other unfortunates.

Any help gratefully received, I will report back with any success.

Thanks Alan,

I've tried several different versions of this advice with no luck.

What I'm in the process of doing is restoring the phone on a second computer. I'd reinstalled iTunes etc but this did not work either.

The second computer recognised the phone was in recovery mode straight away so I'm assuming its something to do with usb or other driver problems on the original laptop, which had synched ok prior to the update several times.

I'm hoping that after restoring on my desktop I can restore the backup from the laptop made this morning.

Edit: Sorry mods I realise this is non GPS but it maybe relevent to others

Right .........

The laptop is running Vista and no matter what I do it will not recognise the iPhone in recovery mode. I've reinstalled all Apple software twice and followed all advice about pressing buttons in different sequences. I've given up.

The desktop is XP and sees the phone straight away and does a restore to the latest OS but not my data etc as its not backed up on that machine.

My advice at this stage is if your running XP you'll probably be ok, if your running Vista take extra precautions or don't do it. My understanding is the main fix is to stop a hacker taking control of your phone through SMS somehow.

I'm fed up with Vista and I've only been using it 2 weeks because I had to. I haven't got my Viamichelin unit successfully synched yet so that I can update the speed camera database (There I got a GPS mention in!)

At least you got the phone working again. I run XP so I hope I will be OK.

I never had a problem under XP but others did.

Just relating my experience.

No problems upgrading with Vista, I believe it can be down to your USB ports, if you have two ports it may work on one but not the other.

I've updated now. I also had a 'carrier settings' update to version 4.4. Since then, sending MMS seems a bit flakey. Sometimes it works fine, other times it hangs at about 90% sending, then says it has failed, though in fact the picture message is sent. Could have been worse though!
