|
|
I had this issue that, if I have the RDS in, the screen would flicker about once every 15 seconds (or so).
I contacted Tomtom and they suggested doing:
Full explorer backup (not Home, you notice)
Chkdsk from Windows on the internal drive
Delete all the top level files.
Delete all /download stuff from the Home area
Let Home replace all the top level files
Run the Clear_Flash utility.
I did all this, went for a drive with RDS enabled and working and I did not see the flickering at all. I had RDS going, music playing, a route mapped out and also TTTracklog running in the background.
The only things that happened was that the internal disk seems to have been renamed to "Internal" and I lost the splash screen (easily fixed).

Call me cynical, but why did it work for you and not for anybody else?
This has now become their almost standard answer, irrespective of the "issue"!
Still, you've got to hand it to them - they've now started using Explorer for backups, so there must be some hope for them yet. _________________ Dennis

I have no idea why it worked - or whether it will go again. If TT would ever tell us WHY it flickers, maybe we could work out a way of stopping it happening [Hah! - I've just seen the flying pigs]

Give it time - it will come back I promise!
It seems the only real cure is to go through the same procedure after each hour of driving.
Must be about time for a new Navcore soon with some new 'features' (bugs) for us to moan about. |

Yes, Tomtom telling users to make a windows backup is a big step (for them) in the right direction. GPS World’s Moderators have been advising us to use the windows method since day one.
Maybe, just maybe, Tomtom will eventually follow the GPS World forum more closely and act on the suggestions/advice put forward on the various topics. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

Maybe TT are following PocketGPS world.
What If they release a software update and get user here to test it!!.
Save money on testing and finding any problems. Brilliant, I’ve just saved TT a shed load of money and utilised the best testers in the world for free. Now if TT could get this forum to write the next Navcore!!!!!!

Good theory. Just one teeny problem - it seems TT already don't pay the slightest bit of attention to their existing Beta testers, what makes you think they'd pay attention to us (how many people here quote pgpsw posts in support of their "issues"?). ![Rolling Eyes](modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif) _________________ Dennis

What's the problem with the flicker anyway? When I'm driving I only glance at the screen momentarily, and if it flickers it's only instantaneous. In some ways it's quite reassuring to realise that each time it flickers it has updated its traffic information!

It's distracting. I see a flicker out of the corner of my eye and look away from the road automatically. So, I am not looking at the road as often as I should

Is that right? I don't suffer the flicker myself (I'm not upgrading until there's an upgrade that works) but I think I've read some reports of flicker every few seconds (15?). On GPRS that could start to mount up a decent bill methinks. _________________ Dennis

I believe the flicker only appears when the TMC traffic is plugged in.
The problem with the flicker is the brain notices something in the corner of your eye has changed and your attention is diverted in that direction. Its maybe not so noticeable in day/sun light but at night is very distracting, so much in fact that I had to turn the satnav away for me when this first happened.
As for whats the problem. The problem is a new very noticeable bug was introduced that should never have passed the testing.
Would you have brought the product if the salesman had said “O and every 15 seconds the screen will flash by removing all the detail like roads” This is not something that is buried in layer of menus.
Both this bug and the voice stutter bug show the very poor testing that is carried out. If its not the testing then the product manager and quality control need replacing.
This is basic stuff we are talking about, the cost of putting something right is far greater that spending time getting it right the first time. _________________ TT520 running App 8.351 & map UK&I v845.26345

If it happened on every unit I suspect it wouldn't.
One of the weirdest things about TomToms (if you look back through years of topics) is that almost every problem DOESN'T affect everyone, |

Absolutely right. I've never had either problem so, if I was a tester, I would have reported that there were no problems. _________________ TT Go Essential |
