Hiya,

I'm considering getting a GPS for my iPaq. The 4150 has no CF slot, so that's not an option, nor does it support Sleeve GPS.

I see my options as being: SD, Bluetooth, Serial.

I have seen on the PDA comparison chart that the 4150's serial GPS support is unknown at present. Has anyone managed to find out whether the support is there?

To su up, i'm after a very cheap, but functional GPS system for sole use in my car. I therefore don't mind it being in-car powered with no real need for portability - just something for casual, occasional use in my car.

Can anyone please give me ideas on my options and relative costs?

Thanks,
Karl

According to this page http://www.eisystems.be/p474.html a serial GPS should work for the iPAQ.

Do yourself a favor and don't go for the cheapest stuff. (If you buy cheap then you end up buying twice). The receiver should at least have a SiRF chipset. The RoyalTek RGM2000 is nice for example. I assume the connector is the same as for the 2210, but maybe someone else can confirm that (I own neither device)

iPAQ 3800 series, 3900 series, 515x, 545x, 555x, 221x and, so far as I remember, 41xx and 43xx, all use the same base connector. The 19xx iPAQs are also the same connector, but there's no serial port in these iPAQs, which precludes their use with serial port devices like wired GPSes. This is signified on the 19xx iPAQs by the connector being turned 'upside down'.

The older 3100, 3600 and 3700 series iPAQs use a different and incompatible connector.
