|
|
have just updated my one xl uk map to version 8.30 and the real voice alerts for speed cameras (Nick)have been assigned to all speed zoned cameras. Before the update they worked perfectly every time.Since the update, even though I've re-assigned the alerts to the correct speed zoned cameras, and shortened file names to eg Gatso20 and also put them in the sounds folder as well as the UK and Ireland map folder, every one reverts back to "Bell1" ie Big Ben!.This NEVER happened before the update. Any advice please?? |

Have you tried to re-use the MapSettings.cfg from the old map?
There are all sorts of weird reactions to that (ranging from nothing to full re-boot looping) when they aren't compatible with a new software or map version.
Check also that the MapSettings.cfg file (or the whole map folder containing it) hasn't become "Read only" by right-clicking on them and looking at the properties. |

When I upgraded to the latest (v8.30) UK and Ireland release TomTom support (whom I contacted today) said that the updated mapping replaced the old mapping and would have over-ridden it. I currently have ONE MapSettings.cfg file in the "UK and ..." map folder and Archive is the only checked box!
I also have a TLV file in the "Map" folder which was previously empty.
It seems, for some reason, that all alerts default to Bell 1 (Big Ben) but I suppose it's better than a mooing cow!!
Any other suggestions please? |

Assuming you have already tried a system reset, the next thing to try is a "Return to Factory Settings" from the menu. Make sure you've saved any locations you need to keep as POIs though because you'll lose all your personal settings. |

Thanks for the support.
I restored my device to factory settings, re-assigned all the real voice alerts to the speed zoned cameras and felt things would be successful!
When my device was disconnected from my computer..............ALL alerts were defaulted back to BIG BEN!!!!(Bell 1).
Incidentally Bell one is the first sound choice in the sound choice box.
I still need help with this if you have the patience! |

The Clear Flash tool found here is supposed to be used when certain user settings don't seem to be retained. I don't know whether it would work in your situation but why don't you try to again associate just one setting, then with the unit still connected to the computer, dl and run 3 times the CF tool, disconnect the unit and see if the sound for the 1 setting was maintained.
If so, perhaps be brave enough to add more sounds and disconnect. See if they are maintained now. _________________ David |

Thanks dhn. What does dl stand for in the 4th line of your text please?
Before I try this, I have:- a)deleted any file associated with pocketgpsworld in all folders and b)again reset my device to factory settings!
I shall try Pocketgpsworld "UK consolidated by type" camera download and Real voice alert download!
I will keep you posted how I progress....!!
Again, many thanks. |

I have only downloaded "Consolidated by type" camera files along with Nicks real voice alert and the Clear Flash tool seems to have done the trick!.........................but I'll know for sure after my round trip of 400 miles.
I'll try the full works ie "Speed Zoned camera" files later if this really works.
My thanks to all contributers! |

After my 400 miles+ driving yesterday, the alerts (consolidated) worked a treat and so the temptation to go with the full speed zoned alerts is on the horizon!
Again thanks for the support.... here's to the next time! |
