|
|
Ok, so I have just done my walk with the satmap which gathered a trail of where I'd been. I open SatSync and I can see All_Raw_Tracks.gpx file. What do I have to do to get that file onto my PC to, say for example, display it in THe Hugs OS map or even Google earth. I've converted trail to track on my Satmap 10 - can this file be used to view where I've been?
Help.

On your Satmap, press the Page button and the Routes button to go into the Routes menu; select "Convert Trail to Track" and press Convert; clear or otherwise the trail and log data on the prompts; select your new Route (Track) and name it something meaningful; connect up to SatSync and after selecting this track, press "Export"
This will creat a gpx file which can be imported into map and route software, or even Google Earth...
I hope this is helpful.
Nathan.
ps. the Raw.map files are your original trail data and seem to remain; I've not tried anything with them so far; the *.map file with your chosen track name is a reduced data route converted from this... _________________ planet nine

That's worked Nathan, thanks.
As you will know, the Satmap User Manual is not very good but as a matter of interest, where is the info necessary to let you know how to work SatSync and indeed how to use the files that SatMap creates.

definitely NOT instruction wise in the Satmap user manual.
Dont forget that the Satmap UNIT came out before SatSync etc were released.
Work SatSync ; the instructions are with the download page if i remember correctly.
How to use the maps created thats a question of looking at previous threads on this board using the search tool and trial and error on your part
using Hug software (your first post in this thread).
How to actually do it ; i don't know as I dont use the Software mentioned |

In response To Mike
i will put my cards on the table.
i have Memory map and Anquet ; my need for Hug is therefore rather suspect.
But i appreciate your thoughts .
As to the original poster billywhiz ; i stand by my remark do a search on a topic - it in all probability has been covered on this board.
play with the machine and try different operations- theoretically one cant
break it doing a few 'key switches' |

I also use Memory Map and Quo Topo mapping on PC and PDA so have little need for the on line services offered by the Hug or Satmap, but with the recent change to pricing for the Satmap on line route planner quite a few people new to the whole concept of electronic OS maps want/ need a cheap/ free solution for the PC planning of routes.
OK they could go and purchase MM/ Quo or Anquet but this tends to add consderable cost to the overal package. The on line planners are rather more simplistic than the heavy weight PC applications such as MM/ Quo etc but on a value for money scale they cannot be beaten - Mike |
