Anyone know when the maps of europe are coming out. TomTom's web site just says "coming soon" but it's said that for ages!

Cheers

I think it's a pity that it doesn't seem possible to buy the European maps in segments.

For example I'm likely to need the Scandinavian maps only and possibly the Spain/Portugal maps later in the year so why do I need to shell out a whopping 189 euros for the whole 1.1 gig of maps when all I need is just 255 meg?

By the time I need the France and Germany maps it'll be time to cough up for another upgrade. Sad

I've answered this question on Saturday here.

The map package isn't yet available from TomTom, but it appears to be available from some retailers.

The only other way to acquire detailed mapping for an entire country is to buy Navigator 3 with different maps - this was the only way to get extra maps in the days of Navigator 1 and the early days of Navigator 2. However, if you shop around, you can find the entire Maps of Western Europe package for the same price as a copy of Navigator 3, which makes a purchase of an extra copy of Navigator 3 with different European maps pointless in most cases.

For Navigator 2 there were also some downloadable maps that covered certain popular holiday areas in Europe and similar. I don't think they've yet been reintroduced for Navigator 3, but that's another option. Keep an eye on Handango.

The only inequality in all this is with the USA maps. This was certainly true under Navigator 2, and it looks as if it may continue under Navigator 3.

Under Navigator 2, the only way to get the USA maps was to buy Navigator 2 USA. Navigator 2 USA customers could use the Maps of Western Europe, acquiring all the available mapping with two purchases. Those who'd got a Navigator 2 European product and Maps of Western Europe who wanted the USA maps also had to buy Navigator 2 USA - three purchases, arguably making their European version of Navigator 2 redundant.

It remains to be seen what the purchasing arrangements for the Navigator 3 USA maps will be, and whether there's any problem activating TomTom Traffic in one or more European countries (I don't know whether a subscription to TomTom Traffic covers all countries in the Traffic coverage area, or whether it covers just one country) if you own Navigator 3 USA and Navigator 3 Maps of Western Europe.

Those who own Navigator 2 USA and Navigator 2 Maps of Western Europe only can't upgrade yet, as Navigator 3 USA isn't yet available.

Try Holux for your maps of Europe. I ordered mine on 21st April and they were delivered the following day. An excellent company to deal with.

Cheers Thumbs Up
