Hi all

I've been a little out of the whole GPS loop for a while as i've had cars with factory fitted sat nav and my trusty ipaq 2210 with TT6 had provided route guidance for me, but as the old TT6 maps were out of date and the GPS receiver was getting flaky I decided to upgrade to a GO530.

Can someone please point me at some info that will help me to transfer faves from the pda based TT6 system to the 530?

Also....how do I kill the tomtom speed camera poi and install the pocketgps database?

I also had some POI's installed......Maccy D's, shell garages and some car parks my MTB club uses as meeting points, they were installed as OV2 files iirc......how do I get those on to the 530?

Apologies for all the Q's....i'm like a kid with a new toy.

one final Q

the built in phone kit sounds dreadful through the internal speaker, is that the norm? Or is it just a poor link with my iPhone?

I noticed that the 530 doesn't display the text messages from the phone.

Look forward to hearing from you

Brian

Simple way to transfer Favourites is to use the PDA to convert them to POI. Create a POI category of your own (e.g. _Favourites - with an underscore as first character to place it at the front of an alphbetical list). Then Add POI and choose Favourite, then Add POI again and choose next Favourite and so on to the end. Then Windows Explorer, Copy and Paste into the map folder on the 530. Other POI transfers, Win Explorer copy and paste (both he OV2 and the associated .BMP icon file for each) again. Instructions for installing pgpsw cameras are linked on the camera download (simple - download, unzip, copy and paste into map folder, enable and set warnings)

Look at the FAQs for getting rid of the TT cameras (but you could run them in parallel at first to satisfy yourself you're getting a proper deal from here). Number 13 is the one for removal of cameras. But FIRST, read number 1 and backup your 530 using Windows Explorer before you read any more. This is important and if you don't do it, you'll sure as eggs is eggs regret it. Do NOT use TomTom Home to backup. Then read all the FAQs before you go to bed tonight. I've been very brief, hoping you understand this with just reasonable himnts. If you need more detailed guidance which isn't in the FAQs and instructions, don't hesitate to come back again.

Don't use phone on the 530's battery. Quality isn't magnificent, but on battery it'll be quite poor. Features are somewhat phone model dependent - texts work with some (like my ancient Nokia 6230i) and don't work with others (like an awful lot of phones more recent than my steam one!!). TomTom don't seem to have put as much effort into this as they might have done if it had been a new feature on the 530 - bluetooth phone connection came with their x00 models, three versions before yours.

Thanks for the reply Dennis

I've been a long time advocate of the pocket GPS database, so I know how good it is Smile

I'll follow the instructions you listed.

With regards to the phone side of the satnav, that's a real disappointment, One of the things that I liked about the Go was to be truly wireless after having both charging and GPS receiver cables on view with the pda.
