Ah, you probably won't be able to transfer them to a new unit without asking TomTom. Maps are locked to the SD Card or unit they are provided for. |

The maps will have been activated to the device your "mate" sold, as such they cannot be added to your device as its a different unit. The fact your device uses a hard drive for storage vs the more normal SD card really doesn't matter - The plain old fact is you cannot install and use maps on a device when they have been activated on a different TomTom - Non transferable - Mike |

You might be sweet and innocent but your "mate" isn't this is information to use an illegally obtained map and as such is piracy (software theft) so it isn't something we will assist with on this forum - If you want to remain with legally obtained software please consider purchasing maps when you require them, this is done using the TomTom Home software on your PC - Mike |

Which map is already on your 700? Apart from selling you a turkey, your mate was offering UK & Republic of Ireland, whereas the 700 is good for the whole of Europe. My 700 has an "old" map which is actually perfectly serviceable despite being a bit old. _________________ Dennis

Tap the satellite bars and you'll see a screen showing the version number of the application installed. Tap the version number and the next screen shows the map and version installed. _________________ David |

As others have properly advised you, no assistance for helping install stolen maps will be found here, or any legitimate gps forum, for that matter. _________________ David |

So far you have told us the maps came from a friends TomTom that has been sold. You have also told us you were provided with a META.
Now at the minute it doesn't look good for you. When maps are sold they are locked to the SD Card or Sat Nav Unit they are sold for. They are not transferable. This has been repeated several times through the thread.
We also know that using a META is part of the method for installing pirated maps. Therefore, in the light of the above, we can not and will not, provide any help with the installation of these maps.
If we have misunderstood the situation then please give us the information we need to get the whole picture, but you wouldn't need a META if you have bought legitimate maps from TomTom. |
