|
|
I have a very good and faithful Tom-Tom Clasic..I feel that I have done all the right things --over the years upgraded maps - and firmware --sent and had a new battery which works well..
BUT -- it now seems to have gone a little pear shape since the last download of firmware and the latest update of Tom-Tom Home..
I suppose that I did too much.. and being 70 don't know too much about these things
Firm ware - software - and new map upgrade to WE 1GB all in one go - no wonder it didn't like it !!
Now it will not connect correctly to my computer at all and if it does it starts wanting to know if I want to speak in Chech or Dutch etc..
when I disconnect it from the computer -- it hangs and needs "the paper clip" and resetting up..
I have NO idea what to do with it..
My question is --- can I send it to someone to sort out for me.. etc
Like when the battery failed and a new one was fitted -- great service..
The other sad thing is that I paid for a new upgrade of the map -- whit updates for the next year -- but as I can't connect -- that seems to have gone
It needs a good looking at by someone who knows..
HELP please

Hello Maurice, I don't know what your TomTom needs to get it going again. It may be that the time has come for it to retire!
I have had a look on Google and found this Sat Nav Repair Centre.
It may be worth giving them a ring and see what they say.
Sorry that I can't be of more help. _________________ TT Go 720 (T)

We would highly recommend Sat-Nav Shop.
They're good guys, know the devices inside and out and will give you a no-obligation quote. Many have used them from here and all have had great reports. _________________ Darren Griffin

It might concern me that the 'latest' news on the linked page is over a year old |

Fair point but I wouldn't let that bother you, the repair service is the important part after all and most of their work comes direct from referral and recommendation.
I'll contact them though as if you were to happen across them by accident that doesn't reflect well! _________________ Darren Griffin |

As I said previously my tom seems to be working OK when it has been reset - after coming off the computers Tom-tom Home ---
so when I down loaded the speed cams this month I put them in a file on my desk top and went back to the Old method -- before tom-tom home of using a card reader to cut and past the updates to the SD card maps..
Great no problems --
However when the computer "saw" the card reader and the SD card it immediately opened Tom-tom home...
OK so I logged in and had a look around [inside tom-tom home] and even was able to down load map updates.. and copied the speed cams across via windows explorer --
I was a little apprehensive when I put the card back into my Tom -- but after a few seconds -- it fired up happy and normal...
so is it the firmware on my tom interreacting with the program on the computer -- that makes it "go funny" when plugging in my Tom direct to the computer -- or what ?? _________________ Happy to meet -- Sorry to part -- Happy to meet again |

There shouldn't be a problem with this, but as we are talking Windows ..... who knows!! _________________ Richard

I think my classic has gone slightly "t*ts up" -- I have finally got it working - stand alone with the original SD 128MB card in...
But it will not recognise the 4GB card at all now .
All the Maps and info are still on there..
I am completely lost now -- and would like to send it away to someone who can "fix it!" [what ever happened to Jim]
any one know of such a person..
I had a new battery fitted a couple of years ago by The Sat Nav man of Sheffield I think -- but
a] I have lost his address
and
b] I don't know if he will do this
any Ideas

What leads you to think it's a hardware issue? Could be a dodgy 4Gb card? _________________ Darren Griffin |

I thought the original could only recognise up to a 2GB Card. _________________ Richard

Agreed.
Either 2GB max or possibly they could manage the non-SDHC 4GB cards, but they were always a bit "on the edge"... |

The 4GB card has worked well for at least three years and prior to that a 2GB card...
-- we updated because we wanted the larger maps all on one card and Tom has taken us all around Europe - faultlessly..
-- we have had no problems at all with the card. .
We are now having problems - overall - with the Classic and unfortunately I do not have the knowledge of how to do these things having collected my bus pass some 10 years ago!!
All I want is to be able to send it away to someone -- and it comes back "sorted" -- it is still a good bit of kit..
Any one know any one who can "do" the software etc with a classic..
-- If you could please PM or Email me or just let me know..
- thanks

You still haven't described what problems? The ones you describe with the card could be entirely related to the card and not the device. It's also possible that a card that was working although unsupported may no longer work pending a firmware update? _________________ Darren Griffin |

The usual recommendation on here for repairs is http://www.satnav-shop.com/
They should be able to tell you the problem, and a cost to fix. _________________ Richard
